Fields of Valour: Normandy is a hex solitair WW2 wargame built with the spirit of a tabletop boardgame in mind rather than a heavy, complex strategy sim.

It recreates the battle that unfolded around Caen with clean turns, readable random maps, and that classic cardboard‑counter feel brought to life on PC. Every unit, every hex, every decision is designed to be quick to grasp but satisfying to master, the kind of game where you can see the battlefield at a glance and immediately start planning your next move.

Development has been a hands‑on indie journey: researching historical formations, building a hex engine from scratch, tuning movement and combat to feel snappy, and crafting a visual style that echoes traditional wargame maps. 

From debugging deployment zones to refining the Caen push, every part of the game has been shaped by the goal of making WW2 tactical play accessible, punchy, and fun. The game has a pick up and play feel.

Some key aspects of the game:

You deploy Allied Infantry, Artillery and Tanks to start the game. A roll of the dice decides whether:

Infantry can Dig-In, Artillery has camo net deployed for concealment or tanks can use smoke - when initiated makes that unit untouchable for a couple of turns.

This game has more of a boardgame feel - It does not have the depth of other similar genre games but if you have few mins to get involved in a skirmish its great.

Each map is different and randomly generated.

The skull and crossbones are minefields. Germans can move onto them unaware which occassionally is an advantage.

German AI is intelligent - They will strategically hunt you the player down. They really do choose their moves carefully.

There are two objectives (Munitions symbol) Move your british unit to capture the German munitions and all your units will have ATK and DEF replenished. Handy in the last throws of the game when down to last man standing.

I developed this game in Gamemaker LTS.  Included is a 'How To Play' Field Manual.

Music I created myself. Concept myself (I wanted more an accessible boardgame / tabletop wargame beginner feel)

My plan is to expand the engine I have created and cover multiple wars and battles across history. My tiny development business Hex Command Games will focus on this objective solely and make available a series of war games just like this one.
